Date: Wednesday, October 15

The 2008 NMCA Edelbrock Drag Racing Series wrapped up in style at Memphis Motorsports Park this past weekend with some of the best racing of the season in a number of classes in the Nitto Tire NMCA World Finals.
In Scorpion Performance Pro Street Mark Micke punctuated his first series championship with a final round win over Chris Rini while Dan Millen took out newly-crowned Nitto Tire Super Street 10.5 W champ Spiro Pappas. In ARP Nostalgia Pro Street, 2008 champion, Jim Widener grabbed his second win of the season after beating Joe Bucaro on a holeshot.

Mike DeMayo and Andy Schmidt’s battle for Comp Cams Pro Stock supremacy ended after Schmidt lost on a holeshot to Skip Baskin in the second round as DeMayo went on to win the event over Baskin.

Off and Running in Memphis
Date: Friday, October 10

In Vortech Superchargers Xtreme Street, Cameron Coble was able to run a stellar 7.91 at 176 mph, besting the class record of 7.98. In first round of eliminations Coble slammed a 7.88, lowering the record again and all but tying Danny Shemwell in points. The two are on the opposite side of the ladder, setting up a possible final round championship race.

Steven Fereday out of Houston, Texas is your number one qualifier in the LSX Drag Radial class, running two killer 7.66 passes yesterday, that’s two tenths quicker than what was good for the number one last year.

Gary Rohe and Ed Rice are here this weekend running Rice’s twin-turbo Mustang in the NMCA’s Outlaw class, Nitto Super Street 10.5W. Yesterday during the last round of qualifying Rohe was able push his Mustang to the tune 7.15 at a whopping 218. If the track holds up today like it did yesterday Rohe and Rice will be tough.

In Car Craft Street Race, class veteran Jay Canella was able to put his cool shoebox Nova into the 8-second range today during the second round of qualifying. Canella has been playing with a nitrous progressive controller and the popular 275 BFGoodrich Drag Radial tire and it’s looking like he’s going to be a player in this cool power adder class this weekend.

Last night during qualifying, Nitto Super Street racers Tony Nesbitt and Spiro Pappas showed everyone what kind of excitement to expect here in Memphis this weekend when they . . .
