HHP and BES to Sponsor Late-Model HEMI Class at Kooks Custom Headers NMCA New Jersey Event - June 6-8, 2008

High Horse Performance (HHP) and Bischoff Engine Service (BES) have stepped up to become the sponsor of the NMCA's Late-Model HEMI class that will run as a part of the Late-Model Shootout at the Atco, New Jersey, event - June 6-8, 2008. HHP and BES expect well over fifty late-model HEMI customers battling to find out who can take home the top prize - $2,500 cash plus an HHP/BES stroker rotating assembly AND a set of 5.7 or 6.1 Kooks Custom Headers and connection pipes (more bonus items may follow!). What's more...the winner of the Late-Model HEMI class will take on the winners of the GM LSX and Ford Modular classes in a "Battle of the Brands" where the racer left standing will win a supercharger system courtesy of Vortech Engineering!

So Much Swag!
Date: Thursday, May 8

Don't forget that there's more than just bragging rights at stake in the Late-Model Shootout at NMCA Atco on June 6-8; In addition to $2500 to win in each of the GM Performance Parts LSX Showdown, Ford Racing Modular Madness, and Late-Model Hemi classes, the winners of the GM and Ford shootouts will also receive an LSX block and Boss block respectively (Hemi grand prize TBA - stay tuned for details).

As if that wasn't enough, each shootout class winner will be invited to compete in the Vortech Superchargers Battle of the Brands, with a complete Vortech supercharger system going to the champion. One Late-Model king will be crowned, and will take home more than ten grand in cash and prizes!

NOS NMCA Muscle Car Nationals Wrap-Up
Date: Monday, May 5

The 7th Annual NOS Muscle Car Nationals held at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky was said to be “off the chain” by many fans and competitors this past weekend. With an exciting first race in Bradenton already completed last month, rumors of another full 20+ Scorpion Pro Street car count were flying around the Internet before Bowling Green, and although a few racers failed to show up, 17 total Pro Streeters made the haul to show who had the baddest machine this weekend. In other news, a couple of former Nitto Super Street 10.5W champions made a showing at Beech Bend, Billy Glidden (2006 champ) and Jim Blair (2007 champ) made their 2008 debut. Combine the full fields in both heads-up and index muscle car classes, and beautiful weather on Saturday and Sunday made for a highly anticipated drag racing event that definitely lived up to the hype, despite a Friday of hellacious thunderstorms.
Some of the highlights of the weekend included Chicago’s Spiro Pappas busting a wicked “pot-stirring” 6.83 qualifying hit, which eventually led to an all-out 1320 war between Glidden and Pappas in the second round. After a nail-biting burnout and staging session, Glidden put a holeshot (and a 1.04 60ft time) on the turbo car, running a 6.99 to Pappas’ 6.95, just barely edging out Pappas by .02 of a second. Vinny Budano was able to run a killer 6.28 at 221 mph in the first round of eliminations, showing the nitrous big-blocks can run with the quicker blower cars of the event, Mark Micke, Steve King, and Jerod Wenrick. In other highlights, two Ty-Tech Racing Engines cars shattered records this weekend, Cameron Coble ran a 7.96 in the Vortech Superchargers Xtreme Street final an . . .

News From Bowling Green
Date: Saturday, May 3

Comp Cams Pro Stock racer Skip Baskin is here in Bowling Green with his newly painted f-body racecar. This ride has worn quite a few different paint schemes over the years, but we think this silver-on-orange scheme may be the coolest looking one yet. Here’s a shot of the car just before a major downpour on Friday.

Andy Schmidt tagged the wall at the last race, which ended his weekend in the first round. Fortunately he was able to get the car totally fixed and painted in time for this race in Bowling Green and if he can keep it under control we feel he’ll be a quick one here this weekend.

Nostalgia Muscle Car class champion Heath Shemwell has shelved his clean ‘69 Camaro this season for Car Craft Street Race battle. His new black 3rd Gen f-body features a nitrous small-block Chevy and a Steve Matukas chassis. Shemwell is known to be a killer on the tree, and if he can work out the new car bugs he should be a top player here in Bowling Green.

Spiro Pappas is on the premises with two nearly identical racecars for Nitto Super Street 10.5W, one with a large single turbo, and one with twin turbos. Although he’ll only be making test hits with the “evil twin,” the plan is to eventually campaign both cars with the NMCA.

Former NSCA champion Jerod Wenrick is here this weekend with his ProCharged Camaro for Scorpion Pro Street. Wenrick’s program is top notch and he should one of the quickest here this weekend.
